Google Just Made Me Cry

I am a sucker for a great ad. Always been. Always will be. So when I see a great ad,  I am able to appreciate it. But then, there are few amazing ones that just give me goosebumps or like the ones I am going to share bellow just make me tear up like a baby.

Advertising is powerful. It is one of the closest things to brainwashing there is, so to be successful in advertising, you have to play on the strings of your audience’s hearts. Google Chrome’s ads in the UK, are way beyond powerful and successful. They are simply amazing.

The main message is “the web is what you make of it”, and the 5 ads share different human stories of how different people used the web for different purposes. Chrome as the main gateway to the web, of course is in the background, but it is never showed per-say, it is the tool that all the people use to create their messages, share their views and connect with others. The people featured in the ads are Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Jamal Edwards founder of, Dan Savage founder of and a dad, who writes emails to his daughter since the day she was born. The stories are greatly cut, the soundtracks are powerful and the messages of each and every person in the ads are so touching and personal. They are chosen in such a way that a different fragment of society associates with them – the Bieber fanatics aka all teens, the monsters – different, fashionable, Gaga-lovers, the gays and all pro-gay people, of course the parents, the ambitious youngsters who strive to “make it”. Can’t think of a better defined cross section of society. Fascinating!

The ad about the dad, was the first one I saw in the blogosphere. I watched it several times, because it is so intricate in the details and messages, and every single time I got goosebumps. It is so pure and wonderful. Reminds me of a conversation that I had with one of my closest friends, who is a mother, that her son has thousands of videos and pictures, and when he grows up he will be able to see all the silly moments and all the love, and relive every breath of his childhood. Things that we as children from another generation can’t, simply because we have only a few pictures a year from birthday parties and holidays. Now with technology, you can record the life of your child and send them messages of love constantly. Don’t know whether I am too emotional and attached to my family, but the whole idea touches me deeply.

The one that actually made me cry and touched me the most was the ad with Dan Savage. I have been a fan of It Gets Better since the beginning of this cause, and I firmly believe in it. Although not gay myself, the cause for equality and the very message that “ït get’s better” is very powerful to me.  It is so real and great to see that there are people who believe in you, even if they don’t know you. Amazing! I was in the USA last year when all these innocent kids were bullied, and there we incidents because of that. I am right now living in a country where it is not accepted to be completely and openly gay, and can’t even imagine what it is to be a teenager in the society here. So the cause and messages in this ad are more than powerful and grand.

Simple as 1+1

Beyonce’s latest video is out. I absolutely love the song, and the video does it justice. It is so simple and open and pure, just like real love.

It is great to see a singer in a simple kind of way. Without hype. Without much glamour. Without crazy clothes, hair, make up or a ton of props. Just talent and voice. That’s what music is all about right?

It’s Almost Here!!!!

As I have blogged before I am excited for the Karl Lagerfeld for Macy’s collection. Now as there is a sneek peek preview for some of the pieces, and I have found my perfect tee (bellow), the excitement is great!

Macy’s have made a great video from the behind the scenes process of making the collection. Please note the atmosphere and the creativity that streams from every corner in this video. Also the speed with wich Karl sketches! It is intense!  I am pretty sure that if I get to meet uncle Karl will shit my pants from intimidation.

And let’s finish with the thoughts of Coco Rocha, it is so wonderful to be able to own pieces by Karl Lagerfeld at an affordable price. Priceless actually!

For the Love of Black and White Polka Dots

I have been in a love-hate relationship with polka dots, since I was a child.  I still am. One of my first sartorial memories from my mom’s closet was a wonderful black and white polka dot dress- knee lenght, short sleeves, little turtle neck, with lace apliquet on the chest. Designed by my grandmother, it was wonderful! I absolutely loved that dress, and couldn’t wait to grow up to wear it. But then growing up, every piece of clothing in polka dot pattern I put on, made me look ridiculous, simply because polka dots were not that much in fashion and I was ridiculed by friends. So after a long low period with nothing polka dot in my closet, I started with small steps. First it was a little scarf, then a little applique detail,  then a skirt and now I am back in love with the idea of a polka dot dress. I guess I found my own inner peace and don’t care about mocking, ridicule or what is in fashion per-say any more.

So recently I was looking for cool polka dot dresses, firmly decided to blog about this story and you can imagine who bewildered I was when I found a whole style report section on WWW for the polka-dots.

So after this inspiration from WWW, I assume polka dots are back in style. Black, white, red, small, large, full on dresses or simply a detail, polka dots are everywhere. So here are some dresses are strike my fancy, to replace the vintage mommy’s dress in my grown up life, until I dig through her closet and find if it is still in existence.

New Rihanna…. and Avril?

Rihanna’s new vid is out. It’s Cheers (Drink to That), the third track from her last album Loud .

The video is cool! I am a big fan of music videos from real life settings travel, concerts, fan meet-ups… It just seems so real and makes the “stars” from the glossy videos a bit more reachable and human. And of course in this video we can see all the different hairstyles the blogosphere has been writing about, as well as the high-waisted hot pants. Hot or not?

However on a first listen, there was something that bothered me in the song. The “Yeah Yeah” part after each verse was very familiar, and I realized with the help of google that it is Avril Lavigne’s song  ‘”I’m with You”.  Check out Avriln’s video after 2:21. So my most normal question is – is it ripped off or is it a collaboration? I’m pretty sure Avril is in Rihanna’s video, above, but hell… if you put a key phrase from someone else’s song, quote them in the title! It’s not that hard!

It’s a Hathaway Day

Anne Hathaway is one of my fave celebs. She is natural, funny and carries some kind of spark that is very hard to define. So first thing today, when going through my google reader I saw a wonderful photo session, Anne had for Interview Mag. It is gorgeous, exquisite, a bit goth, but very powerful imagery. I love the sinister and very dramatic set, with the lace and feathers, and of course the dark nails and makeup juxtapositioned with the white skin. It is simply gorgeous.

So I kept on reading stuff and there goes another Anne Hathaway piece. A youtube clip from a couple of days ago featuring Anne rapping away. It is hilarious! So there you go – from an angelic goth-like amazing photoshoot to being fun and crazy in the style of lil’Wayne.

Yoü And I and Gaga

She’s a mermaid. No! She’s a dude! No! She’s a high fashion robot in the mid-west! Oh, no, it’s just Gaga.

The new video for her latest track – You and I is out, and it’s cray-zey, a bit creepy, a tad fetishist and as always kinda weird, but of course, the fashion is just fab! Here you go… what do you think?

The Fashion IMDB

What would you say about a place that there is all the information about fashion that one would ever need. Models, stylists, magazines, covers, photographers past and present are on the IMDB for fashion called

A great site, launched by Zoe Saldana  is one of my latest discoveries and I am completely in fashion knowledge lust. It is like an encyclopedia for the fashion geeks, where you can drawn in information and examine anything that comes to mind – the cover of Vogue 7 months ago, all the campaigns featuring Lara Stone or all the publications of Kim Kardashian. Also the blog on the page is pretty cool, covering curious topics in an informative ways.  I am still in the process of discovering what is there, but so far, so awesome. Definitely worth checking out..

I got gadgets and gizmos a plenty!

Have you ever felt like you have everything and still there is something missing. I was talking with one of my incredibly witty friends tonight and explaining how I feel, and that it is so bizarre.  Her words were  “You feel like the little mermaid or Belle. I want adventure in the great wide somewhere…or look at this stuff, isn’t it neat, wouldn’t you think my collection’s complete?? I’m a girl,a girl who has everything??”
So here is a song, and a post for all the people who should be happy and satisfied, but there is always something out there, something more, something to reach for, even if you don’t know exactly what it is. Perhaps it is a new thing for our generation; a quarter-life crisis for people who have seen, tasted and experienced more in the first twenty-something years of their life.
