Crush of the day: Michael Kors Ritz Horn Watch

Crush of the day:

One Day

Being a very picky reader, who gets bored at page 50, it is very rare that I find a book that I read page to page in the matter of a couple of days. So whenever I find a book like this, it makes me warm and fuzzy on the inside. Few days ago I finished David Nichols’ “One Day” and now I am more than looking forward to see the movie, featuring Anne Hathaway and  Jim Sturgess as Emma and Dexter.

The story is just wonderful – following the lives of two people, on the anniversary of the day they met. It follows the ups and downs, the complex relations between men and women, the wonderful times when you think you have found yourself, and the scary moments you are looking but nothing is in the horizon. Perhaps I am looking into it too deeply, or perhaps it speaks to my own life and story, but no matter what the reasoning behind my infatuation with the story, there is no doubt that it is wonderful!

Here is a glimpse of the trailer, for just a taste of the story. Haven’t seen it yet, but I do hope it is as good as the book!

Looking Back in Time

Exactly a year ago I left London, after living on the South Bank for almost a year. Deep in my heart I miss the vibrancy, the crowds, the life, the colors and the pace. I miss seeing these sights every day. I miss walking on Waterloo bridge in the wind. Miss strolling on the Queens Walk. Even miss feeling like a tiny ant in the crowd on Waterloo station. I catch myself reminiscing about the times there, although I used to grunt about life at such an overcrowded place constantly while there.

Found this movie, that captures the little precious moments of life on the South Bank, so I hope you enjoy it.

The Postsecret Essence

I have written and talked a lot about PostSecret. But this video actually explains why I am so much in love with the project!

PostSecret Love

I have been in an affair with PostSecret since forever… perhaps since the blog started in 2005. I was a freshman in college and it was one of the biggest hits in the online world at the time. All college kids loved it! Then I wrote an essay, which got published in a book titled The Authors of Tomorrow about postsecret. I own some of the books and have been to an exhibit in an art gallery. And still every sunday it is one of my little rituals that I flip through the blog for 5 minutes (sometimes more). That is one very long affair, I guess.

For those who have never heard about postsecret, and yes, believe it or not there are still some of you, the official definition is that it is an ongoing community mail art project, created by Frank Warren, in which people mail their secrets anonymously on a homemade postcard. Select secrets are then posted on the PostSecret website, or used for PostSecret’s books or museum exhibits.

So PostSecret is like a religion, because it gives you that ultimate feeling that you belong. Belonging that is in the form of – there are so many other people who read it, there are so many other people who write these beautiful postracrds, and there are so many other people who share your secrets. It definitely makes the world a tad bit less scary. And although that sounds a bit emotional this is how it feels. I have cried and laughed while reading some of the secrets, and wtf-ed at some of them, and shared them with friends,  and I know that every sunday I will open it, it will be emotional.

The best part of the whole thing is when you see a postcard, with a message that talks to you, and shares exactly how you feel, have felt or think you will feel. It is a magical online little place 🙂

Nothing Like the Sunday Brunch!

Brunch is a staple and we love it!

When I was living in DC, some of the best times we have had are over brunch! So as Sunday brunch here in Bulgaria is not far away from a staple I decided to turn it into one, at least among my friends 🙂

Here are two simple, super delicious things to start with- eggs florentine and mimosas.

The eggs are a perfect balance of flavours (the way I make them is a bit lighter version than the original recipe) and the mimosas are simply delicious, but a bit dangerous 🙂

Eggs Florentine

4 slices (1 inch thick) sourdough bread

3 tablespoons olive oil

Coarse salt and ground pepper

2 scallions, thinly sliced

1 pound baby spinach

1/3 cup crumbled fresh goat cheese (3 ounces)

4 large eggs

Heat broiler, with rack set 4 inches from heat. Place bread on a baking sheet, and brush both sides with 2 tablespoons oil. Season with salt and pepper. Broil until golden, 1 to 3 minutes per side; set aside.

In a large nonstick skillet, heat 1 teaspoon oil over medium. Add scallions and as much spinach as will fit; season with salt and pepper. Cook until wilted, tossing and adding more spinach as room becomes available, 2 to 3 minutes. Drain off excess liquid; mix in goat cheese. Transfer to a bowl; cover to keep warm. Set aside.

Wipe out skillet; heat remaining 2 teaspoons oil over medium. Gently crack eggs into skillet; season with salt and pepper. Cook until whites are almost set, about 1 minute. Cover, and remove from heat; let stand until whites are set but yolks are still soft, about 3 minutes.

Top each piece of toast with spinach mixture and 1 egg; serve immediately.

Champagne (1 bottle)

Orange Juice (1 carton)

Fill half of a champagne flute with chilled champagne (about 2 ounces) and top off with chilled orange juice (again about 2 ounces), gently stir. Enjoy!
