My five: Music

I am starting with a little rubric in the blog to share top 5 of my favourites in different categories. I think it is a good way to show what I like, what works for me and to put myself out there a bit more. I am starting with music, as it is the continuous soundtrack of my life. My tastes are pretty eclectic, but mainly pop, I like saying that my taste is so commercial that I can predict a billboard top 10 track from first listen. So here are top 5 songs and videos that have been on rerun on my iphone and Spotify list. I hope you enjoy them as well!

Sia – Elsatic Heart

Hozier – Take Me To Church

Mark Ronson – Uptown Funk ft. Bruno Mars

Ed Sheeran – Thinking Out Loud

United state of pop 2011 – World Go Boom!

DJ Earworm’s United state of pop is out! Last year, I wrote that it is like a memory lane of music, and it is so true! A whole year of music in 5 minutes, just makes my little heart happy.

  • Bruno Mars – Grenade
  • Bruno Mars – The Lazy Song

The Song in My Head Today… and for the past few weeks

I rarely post songs, but this one has been an earworm forever, so I just had to share it in the blog… for my records 🙂

Plus the fashion in the video is so trashy and wonderful that I just wish I could wear a denim short skirt ensemble with tigh-high socks and sneakers. Too bad Sofia is not the place for trash fash and Jeremy Scott Spring 2012 would not be appreciated in the right way.  🙂

Gaga as a Nymph

Is it me or it is weird to see Lady Gaga with almost no make up on?

New Rihanna…. and Avril?

Rihanna’s new vid is out. It’s Cheers (Drink to That), the third track from her last album Loud .

The video is cool! I am a big fan of music videos from real life settings travel, concerts, fan meet-ups… It just seems so real and makes the “stars” from the glossy videos a bit more reachable and human. And of course in this video we can see all the different hairstyles the blogosphere has been writing about, as well as the high-waisted hot pants. Hot or not?

However on a first listen, there was something that bothered me in the song. The “Yeah Yeah” part after each verse was very familiar, and I realized with the help of google that it is Avril Lavigne’s song  ‘”I’m with You”.  Check out Avriln’s video after 2:21. So my most normal question is – is it ripped off or is it a collaboration? I’m pretty sure Avril is in Rihanna’s video, above, but hell… if you put a key phrase from someone else’s song, quote them in the title! It’s not that hard!

The year of 4: Beyonce for real

I am a sucker for documentaries, and when it is inspiring and touching and real, it just makes me warm and fuzzy on the inside.

Beyonce is so open in this documentary, very true to herself, down to earth and shows us the journey she has been through in the creation of the new album.

The most exciting lesson for me “you need to live a life and open your eyes. you don’t want to wake up with no memories, and never really being able to see the world.” So true. Thank you, B.

Edge of Glory

The new Gaga video is pretty simple, compared to the outrageousness of Judas and the cinematographic qualities of the videos from the previous album. The song is pretty catchy, reminds me a lot of old pop songs, especially the sax part.

The styling is something everyone talked about – leather and gold from the last collection of the legendary Gianni Versace. It is very Pretty Woman meet Catwoman, but I guess it works for Gaga, as always… this lady can pull basically anything off.

Blast from the Past

Today I started listening to the Sunscreen song, and realized that younger people have never heard of it. (and I am not THAT old)  There is so much wisdom and truth in it, that everybody should listen to it and learn from it, and maybe then the world will become a better place.

Published as an essay “Advice, like youth, probably just wasted on the young” written by Mary Schmich, here are the lyrics.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of ’99
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be
it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by
scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable
than my own meandering
experience…I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not
understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded.
But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself and
recall in a way you can’t grasp now how much possibility lay before
you and how fabulous you really looked….

You’re not as fat as you  imagine.

Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as
effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing
bubblegum.

The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that
never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm
on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing everyday that scares you

Sing

Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts, don’t put up with
people who are reckless with yours.

Floss

Don’t waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes
you’re behind…the race is long, and in the end, it’s only with
yourself.

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you
succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.

Stretch

Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your
life…the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they
wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year
olds I know still don’t.

Get plenty of calcium.

Be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.

Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll have children, maybe
you won’t, maybe you’ll divorce at 40, maybe you’ll dance the funky
chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary…what ever you do, don’t
congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either – your
choices are half chance, so are everybody else’s.

Enjoy your body,
use it every way you can…don’t be afraid of it, or what other people
think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever
own..

Dance…even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.

Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them.

Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.

Get to know your parents, you never know when they’ll be gone for
good.

Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the
people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go,but for the precious few you
should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and
lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you
knew when you were young.

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live
in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel.

Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will
philander, you too will get old, and when you do you’ll fantasize
that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were
noble and children respected their elders.

Respect your elders.

Don’t expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund,
maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one
might run out.

Don’t mess too much with your hair, or by the time you’re 40, it will
look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who
supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of
fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the
ugly parts and recycling it for more than
it’s worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen…
